International Center on Conflict and Negotiation (ICCN) presents the chronology and relevant documents of the international mediation and conflict resolution tool - "Group of Friends".
We have added this new folder to the electronic Historical Archive of Georgia in Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding, under the title -
Groups of friends of Georgia, as the instrument of international peace mediation, has been operating for Georgia since 1993. This format has gone through a difficult path alongside with Georgia. The chronology clearly shows the rifts, Russia's participation in this format, its multi-role and multi-functional dominant (facilitator, friend, party, blue helmet, occupier...), which destroyed the peace processes of Georgia and highly reduced the possibilities of peaceful resolution of conflicts.
Since 2009, the Group of Friends of Georgia has issued joint statements without Russia and strengthens Georgia, condemns Russia's actions, and again declares its support for Georgia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Since 2014, the OSCE Group of Friends of Georgia, together with the regular support of Georgia, always echoes the elections held in the occupied territories of Georgia and calls on the international community, stakeholders, not to recognize and condemn them. (Last on March 18 and April 10, 2022).
And only this year, the OSCE Group of Friends of Georgia did not respond with a joint statement to the holding of elections in the occupied territory of Georgia... Our partner countries only individually condemned yesterday's elections in Tskhinvali.
It is very sad what is happening in Georgia, and this is one more unpleasant and sad fact that was added: the statements of individual countries to support Georgia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity - are not strengthened and empowered by this important international tool - the OSCE Group of Friends of Georgia...
